PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
1/19/2025
In January the Legislative session started on 1/07/2025 at the State House. RIMA was there there to greet our Legislators. To see our friends and to welcome
the new Legislators that will be starting this year.
We will be following all bills that may affect Bikers here in Rhode Island. Ready to respond as needed both for good bills that will help us. Or to oppose
Bills that will negatively affect us also.
Without RIMA there would not be a unified voice for motorcycle riders at the State House. Thank you to all of our members past and present for your support. Together we make a difference for safety, education and legislation in R.I. We look forward to another 50 years of success. Our success depends on you JOIN RIMA TODAY help us help you.
Our next RIMA meeting will be on 02/18/2025 @ 7pm.
At Road Rangers Club House 9 Lincoln Ave. Coventry RI..
Ride safe Ride Free.
Paul Bond
President/ RIMA

Legislative Message
Legislative Update #3; Week 3
(For information only, NO Action by Members needed at this time.)

UPDATE As Of Jan 25th; Prepared By Cam Bigelow, RIMA Secretary; For RIMA President, Paul Bond.
===============================
House Budget Bill # 5076 (Governor's)
was Introduced Jan 16th, 2025:
By Rep Abney (Finance Comm Chair)
Assigned to House Finance.

I located the "Motorcycle Trade In Tax"
Exemption -- and the language has NOT been amended. It remains "As Is" and within ARTICLE 5 of the Bill.
===============================
Senate Bill No. 41-- (A "separate" Bill from the previously passed Budget Bill) was Re-introduced (as in previous years) on Jan 23rd; "Motorcycle Trade In Tax". RIMA will file a "Support" Email; however, in the past it did not even get a Committee Hearing.
===============================
House Bill No. 5183 -- Introduced 1/24 to Sen Judiciary. "Lane Filtering"
BY Bennett, Cotter, Edwards, Quattrocchi, Chippendale, Paplauskas, Nardone, Roberts, Slater, Casey.

ENTITLED, AN ACT RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- PASSING, USE OF LANES AND RULES OF THE ROAD (Allows lane filtering, the act of passing stopped or slow-moving vehicles proceeding in the same direction, for motorcycles at low speeds.)

NOTE: Sponsors from the House Judiciary Committee and others. At this time, Lane Filtering is a "long shot" -- but RIMA will file a "Support" Email and Testify "In Person".
